From Andean peaks to a lost Inca city above the clouds

Americas

The Americas span two continents; SafiriFlow's programme focuses on Peru's Andean highlands and its Inca heritage.

Two continents, one focus

The Americas stretch from the Arctic to Patagonia, encompassing an immense range of landscapes and cultures. SafiriFlow's current Americas programme is centred on Peru, where the Andes mountains hold one of the world's most extraordinary archaeological sites.

Peru's highlands

Machu Picchu, the fifteenth-century Inca citadel set high above the Urubamba River, anchors most itineraries, usually combined with time in Cusco, the former Inca capital, and the Sacred Valley's villages and markets. Trekking routes, including the multi-day Inca Trail, approach the site on foot through cloud forest and mountain passes.

Altitude and timing

Much of the region sits at significant altitude, so most itineraries build in time to acclimatise in Cusco before heading to the ruins. The dry season, roughly May to September, brings the clearest skies and firmest trekking conditions, while the wet season from November to March can bring afternoon rain and cloud cover to the highlands.
